01) About Shugakuso
One of Hokkaido’s best-known outdoor retailers.
Founded in 1955, it began by sewing backpacks and tents for mountaineering teams. The business began in Sapporo and has nearly 70 years of history. Currently, it has two stores in Sapporo (Shiroishi Store and Hokkaido University Store) and a store in Asahikawa, along with its own sewing workshop and online stores (Rakuten / Amazon / Yahoo!).
They have long been deeply involved in the local Hokkaido community and have been called by many media outlets "the iconic large outdoor store / the face of Hokkaido." The stores not only sell equipment but also serve as hubs for supplies and information exchange before departures.
